Issa Rae Mocks Kanye West In Front Of Kim Kardashian At CFDA Awards

On Monday (June 4) night, "Insecure" creator and star Issa Rae hosted the 2018 CFDA Awards. Unsurprisingly, she did an amazing job because she definitely had a few key moments at the fashion event that everyone has been talking about ever since.

Rae walked down the CFDA Awards' red carpet in a sparkly blue Pyer Moss gown that had 180,000 Swarovski crystals. The label's designer Kerby Jean-Raymond told PEOPLE how the piece came together. β€œ[It was] interesting and new for me because a lot of it was done via phone and pictures because of our work schedules,” he said. β€œThe sketching process was very fun.” Check out Rae's look below.

Now, let's discuss Rae's opening monologue. In the speech, the star cracked on Kanye West and his controversial slavery comments. β€œI’m about as fashionable as Kanye is black. Only when it’s convenient," she said, as USA Today reports. "That joke was my choice, just like slavery.” Though West wasn't in attendance at the event, wife Kim Kardashian was. Needless to say, that moment must have been super awkward for her. She must have looked like...

As we previously reported, West rapped about Kardashian's reaction after she heard his "slavery was a choice" remarks. β€œWife calling screaming saying we’re about to lose it all/ I had to calm her down β€˜cos she couldn’t breathe," he spit on a song off of his ye album. "I told her she could leave me now but she wouldn’t leave/ This is what they mean for better or for worse huh?”

Rae continued in her monologue: "They told me that Cate Blanchett would be (at the show) and I was like, 'Yes I am in!' Only because she owes me money.

"I’m the first person of color to ever host this so I really can’t (expletive) up, which is crazy especially considering the impact our culture has had on fashion," she said, referencing Louis Vuitton men's artistic director Virgil Abloh, who was one of the night's nominees. "A man making clothes too expensive for everyone regardless of race. That is the future liberals want."
